as when fire kindleth the brushwood, and the fire causeth the waters to boil; to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!
When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains quaked at thy presence.
For from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye {Or, seen; O God, besides thee, one that &c.}seen a God besides thee, who worketh for him that waiteth for him.

And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee; for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast {Hebrew: melted.}consumed us by means of our iniquities.
But now, O Jehovah, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
Be not wroth very sore, O Jehovah, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, look, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.
Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant places are laid waste.
Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O Jehovah? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?

And when the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
Then the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,
O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith Jehovah. Behold, as the clay in the potter's hand, so are ye in my hand, O house of Israel.
Thus saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb: I am Jehovah, that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth ( {Another reading is, by myself.}who is with me?);
For ye are all sons of God, through faith, in Christ Jesus.
Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why didst thou make me thus?
Or hath not the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor?
What if God, {Or, although willing}willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering vessels of wrath fitted unto destruction:

even us, whom he also called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles?
Thy hands have framed me and fashioned meTogether round about; yet thou dost destroy me.
And if ye are Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, heirs according to promise.
Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast fashioned me as clay;And wilt thou bring me into dust again?
Know ye that Jehovah, he is God:It is he that hath made us, {Another reading is, and not we ourselves.}and we are his;We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Jehovah will perfect that which concerneth me:Thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, endureth for ever;Forsake not the works of thine own hands.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them.
