For the Chief Musician. Maschil of the sons of Korah.
As the hart panteth after the water brooks,
So panteth my soul after thee, O God.
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God:
When shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my food day and night,
While they {Hebrew: all the day.}continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
These things I remember, and pour out my soul {Hebrew: upon.}within me,
How I went with the throng, and {Or, went in procession with them}led them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holyday.
Why art thou {Hebrew: bowed down.}cast down, O my soul?
And why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him
For the help of his countenance.
O my God, my soul is cast down within me:
Therefore do I remember thee from the land of the Jordan,
And the Hermons, from {Or, the little mountain}the hill Mizar.
Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterfalls:
All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
 Yet Jehovah will command his lovingkindness in the day-time;
And in the night his song shall be with me,
Even a prayer unto the God of my life.
I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me?
Why go I mourning {Or, while the enemy oppresseth}because of the oppression of the enemy?
As with {Or, crushing}a sword in my bones, mine adversaries reproach me,
While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
And why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him,
Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.
Querverweise zu Psalm 42,2 Ps 42,2
They shall be {Hebrew: watered.}abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; And thou wilt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat!
One thing have I asked of Jehovah, that will I seek after:That I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life,To behold {Or, the pleasantness}the beauty of Jehovah,And to {Or, consider his temple}inquire in his temple.
For with thee is the fountain of life:In thy light shall we see light.
For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
Blessed are they that dwell in thy house:They will be still praising thee. [Selah
A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.O God, thou art my God; earnestly will I seek thee:My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee,In a dry and weary land, where no water is.
But Jehovah is {Or, God in truth}the true God; he is the living God, and an everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembleth, and the nations are not able to abide his indignation.
For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.I had rather {Or, stand at the threshold of &c.}be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.
For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself:
And he showed me a river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of {Or, the Lamb. In the midst of the street thereof, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life &c.}the Lamb,
For they themselves report concerning us what manner of entering in we had unto you; and how ye turned unto God from idols, to serve a living and true God,
