Purpose clause with negative μη and first aorist passive of σκανδαλιζω, common verb in the Synoptics (Matthew 13:21) "the σκανδαλα of faith, the stumblingblocks which trip up a disciple" (Bernard), in John only John 6:61 and here (cf. 1. John 2:10).
