A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.O God, thou art my God; earnestly will I seek thee:My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee,In a dry and weary land, where no water is.
So have I looked upon thee in the sanctuary,To see thy power and thy glory.
Because thy lovingkindness is better than life,My lips shall praise thee.
So will I bless thee while I live:I will lift up my hands in thy name.
My soul shall be satisfied as with {Hebrew: fat.}marrow and fatness;And my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips;
For the Chief Musician. Maschil of the sons of Korah.As the hart panteth after the water brooks,So panteth my soul after thee, O God.
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God:When shall I come and appear before God?
After this Jesus, knowing that all things are now finished, {Psalm 69:21}that the scripture might be accomplished, saith, I thirst.
And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.
Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Lord Jehovah, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?
if ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious:
And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed them that should sing unto Jehovah, and give praise {Or, in the beauty of holiness}in holy array, as they went out before the army, and say, Give thanks unto Jehovah; for his lovingkindness endureth for ever.
And when they began to sing and to praise, Jehovah set liers-in-wait against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, that were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
Jehovah is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup:Thou maintainest my lot.
