And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of {Or, your repentance}repentance:
And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went.
For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the {See marginal note on chapter 5:46.}publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.
Then Judas, who {See marginal note on chapter 10:4.}betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
For though I made you sorry with my epistle, I do not regret it: though I did regret it ( {Some ancient authorities omit for.}for I see that that epistle made you sorry, though but for a season),
(for they indeed have been made priests without an oath; but he with an oath {Or, through}by him that saith {Or, unto}of him, {Psalms 110:4}The Lord sware and will not repent himself,Thou art a priest for ever);
For my love they are my adversaries:But I give myself unto prayer.
I now rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye were made sorry unto repentance; for ye were made sorry after a godly sort, that ye might suffer loss by us in nothing.
