Versliste
The {Or, oracle concerning}burden of the beasts of the South.Through the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the humps of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.
For Egypt helpeth in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I {Or, cried concerning this, They are but arrograncy: be still}called her Rahab that sitteth still.
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Jehovah; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Is it not thou that didst cut Rahab in pieces, that didst pierce the monster?
In that day Jehovah with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the {Or, gliding Or, fleeing}swift serpent, and leviathan the {Or, winding}crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea.
Deck thyself now with excellency and dignity; And array thyself with honor and majesty.
Pour forth the overflowings of thine anger; And look upon every one that is proud, and abase him.
Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low;And tread down the wicked where they stand.
Hide them in the dust together;Bind their faces in the hidden place.
Then will I also confess of theeThat thine own right hand can save thee.
Behold now, {That is, the hippopotamus.}behemoth, which I made {Hebrew: with.}as well as thee;He eateth grass as an ox.
Lo now, his strength is in his loins,And his force is in the muscles of his belly.
He moveth his tail like a cedar:The sinews of his thighs are knit together.
His bones are as tubes of brass; His {Or, ribs}limbs are like bars of iron.
He is the chief of the ways of God:He only that made him giveth him his sword.
