Versliste
I will show thee, hear thou me;And that which I have seen I will declare
(Which wise men have toldFrom their fathers, and have not hid it;
Unto whom alone the land was given,And no stranger passed among them):
The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, {Or, And years that are numbered are laid up &c.}Even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor.
A sound of terrors is in his ears;In prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness,And he is waited for of the sword.
He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it?He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
Distress and anguish make him afraid; They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
Hear now my reasoning,And hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
Hear diligently my speech,And let my declaration be in your ears.
According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity,And sow {Or, mischief}trouble, reap the same.
Now a thing was {Hebrew: brought by stealth.}secretly brought to me,And mine ear received a whisper thereof.
In thoughts from the visions of the night,When deep sleep falleth on men,
Fear came upon me, and trembling,Which made all my bones to shake.
Then {Or, a breath passed over}a spirit passed before my face; The hair of my flesh stood up.
It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof;A form was before mine eyes: {Or, I heard a still voice}There was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
Of Edom. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?
The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah concerning Edom: We have heard tidings from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem.
For I was envious at the {Or, fools}arrogant,When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
For {Or, the thing which I feared is come &c.}the thing which I fear cometh upon me,And that which I am afraid of cometh unto me.
I {Or, was not at ease…yet trouble came}am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither have I rest; But trouble cometh.
