Versliste
There was a certain Jew in Shushan the palace, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite,
who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captives that had been carried away with {In 2 Kings 24:6, Jehoiachin.}Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.
And he {Hebrew: nourished.}brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maiden was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.
{Or, For my father and my mother have forsaken me, But Jehovah &c.}When my father and my mother forsake me,Then Jehovah will take me up.
A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows,Is God in his holy habitation.
I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, and the myrtle, and the {Or, oleaster}oil-tree; I will set in the desert the {Or, cypress}fir-tree, the {Or, plane}pine, and the box-tree together:
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing; and all the trees of the fields shall clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir-tree; and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle-tree: and it shall be to Jehovah for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
