Versliste
They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?
But we hoped that it was he who should redeem Israel. Yea and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things came to pass.
But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The disciples say unto him, Rabbi, the Jews were but now seeking to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
and all that heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly;Lo, I will not refrain my lips,O Jehovah, thou knowest.
Then said I, Lo, I am come;In the roll of the book it is {Or, prescribed to}written of me:
I delight to do thy will, O my God;Yea, thy law is within my heart.
I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly;Lo, I will not refrain my lips,O Jehovah, thou knowest.
Then Paul answered, What do ye, weeping and breaking my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
For consider him that hath endured such gainsaying of sinners against {Many ancient authorities read themselves. Compare Numbers 16:38.}himself, that ye wax not weary, fainting in your souls.
For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died;
Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
From that time began {Some ancient authorities read Jesus Christ.}Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
And while they {Some ancient authorities read were gathering themselves together.}abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be {See chapter 10:4.}delivered up into the hands of men;
and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised up. And they were exceeding sorry.
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is {See chapter 3:19.}delivered up into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he shall rise again.
From that time began {Some ancient authorities read Jesus Christ.}Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
And while they {Some ancient authorities read were gathering themselves together.}abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be {See chapter 10:4.}delivered up into the hands of men;
and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised up. And they were exceeding sorry.
And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples apart, and on the way he said unto them,
Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be {See chapter 10:4.}delivered unto the chief priests and scribes; and they shall condemn him to death,
and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify: and the third day he shall be raised up.
saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and there come together with him all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
And he took {Some ancient authorites read the cup.}a cup, and gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
and led him to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be {Greek: liable to.}worthy of death.
what think ye? They answered and said, He is {Greek: liable to.}worthy of death.
And straightway in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.
and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pilate the governor.
And the whole company of them rose up, and brought him before Pilate.
And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cæsar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.
And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with {Or, strokes of rods}blows of their hands.
And they clothe him with purple, and platting a crown of thorns, they put it on him;
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the {Or, palace See Mark 15:16.}Prætorium, and gathered unto him the whole {Or, cohort}band.
And they {Some ancient authorities read clothed.}stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
And they platted a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
And they spat upon him, and took the reed and smote him on the head.
And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the robe, and put on him his garments, and led him away to crucify him.
And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they {Greek: impressed.}compelled to go with them, that he might bear his cross.
And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, The place of a skull,
they gave him wine to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted it, he would not drink.
And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots;
and they sat and watched him there.
And they set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Then are there crucified with him two robbers, one on the right hand and one on the left.
And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads,
and saying, Thou that destroyest the {Or, sanctuary}temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.
In like manner also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
He saved others; {Or, can he not save himself?}himself he cannot save. He is the King of Israel; let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on him.
He trusteth on God; let him deliver him now, if he desireth him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
And the robbers also that were crucified with him cast upon him the same reproach.
And the men that held {Greek: him.}Jesus mocked him, and beat him.
And they blindfolded him, and asked him, saying, Prophesy: who is he that struck thee?
And many other things spake they against him, reviling him.
And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with {Or, strokes of rods}blows of their hands.
Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him {Or, with rods}with the palms of their hands,
I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
And Pilate, wishing to content the multitude, released unto them Barabbas, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
I will therefore chastise him, and release him. {Many ancient authorities insert verse 17 Now he must needs release unto them at the feast one prisoner. Compare Matthew 27:15; Mark 15:6; John 18:39. Others add the same words after verse 19.}
I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
He was despised, and {Or, forsaken}rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with {Hebrew: sickness.}grief: and {Or, he hid as it were his face from us}as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.
For thou wilt not leave my soul to Sheol;Neither wilt thou suffer thy {Or, godly Or, beloved Another reading is, holy ones.}holy one to see {Or, the pit}corruption.
After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him.
