For which cause I suffer also these things: yet I am not ashamed; for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard {Or, that which he hath committed unto me Greek: my deposit.}that which I have committed unto him against that day.
This testimony is true. For which cause reprove them sharply, that they may be {Greek: healthy.}sound in the faith,
For this cause therefore did I {Or, call for you, to see and to speak with you}entreat you to see and to speak with me: for because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.
For this cause have I sent unto you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who shall put you in remembrance of my ways which are in Christ, even as I teach everywhere in every church.
And his affection is more abundantly toward you, while he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.
Quench not the Spirit;
I came to cast fire upon the earth; and {Or, how would I that it were already kindled!}what do I desire, if it is already kindled?
Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
{Many ancient authorities read For.}Yet I would that all men were even as I myself. Howbeit each man hath his own gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that.
For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For the gifts and the calling of God are not repented of.
