For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that were wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I gave thee charge;
Let a man so account of us, as of ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
For if I do this of mine own will, I have a reward: but if not of mine own will, I have a stewardship intrusted to me.
whereof I was made a minister, according to the {Or, stewardship See 1 Corinthians 9:17}dispensation of God which was given me to you-ward, to fulfil the word of God,
if so be that ye have heard of the {Or, stewardship}dispensation of that grace of God which was given me to you-ward;
neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a {Or, stewartship See 1 Corinthians 9:17.}dispensation of God which is in faith; so do I now.
but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise dominion. Daring, self-willed, they tremble not to rail at {Greek: glories.}dignities:
The {Or, overseer}bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
Deacons in like manner must be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
{Or, not quarrelsome over wine}no brawler, no striker; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money;
