Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.
And I also say unto thee, that thou art {Greek: Petros.}Peter, and upon this {Greek: petra.}rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
The Jews therefore said unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
Like as many were astonished at thee (his visage was so marred {Or, from that of man, and his form from that of the sons of men}more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men),
Let {Or, every house}all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made himboth Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.
and killed the {Or, Author}Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; {Or, of whom}whereof we are witnesses.
ye who received the law {Or, as the ordinance of angels Greek: unto ordinances of angels.}as it was ordained by angels, and kept it not.
Therefore doth the Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.
No one {Some ancient authorities read took it away}taketh it away from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have {Or, right}power to lay it down, and I have {Or, right}power to take it again. This commandment received I from my Father.
But go ye and learn what this meaneth, {Hosea 6:6.}I desire mercy, and not sacrifice: for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
{Or, But shall we say, From men?}But should we say, From men — they feared the people: {Or, for all held John to be a prophet indeed}for all verily held John to be a prophet.
And they sought to lay hold on him; and they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spake the parable against them: and they left him, and went away.

But he passing through the midst of them went his way.

They sought again to take him: and he went forth out of their hand.
They sought therefore to take him: and no man laid his hand on him, because his hour was not yet come.
These words spake he in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man took him; because his hour was not yet come.
And delivered his strength into captivity,And his glory into the adversary's hand.
What aileth thee, O thou sea, that thou fleest?Thou Jordan, that thou turnest back?
Ye mountains, that ye skip like rams;Ye little hills, like lambs?
Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord,At the presence of the God of Jacob,
For he spake, and it was done;He commanded, and it stood fast.
And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed,Until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies.Is not this written in the book of {Or, The Upright}Jashar? And the sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
And there was no day like that before it or after it, that Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of a man: for Jehovah fought for Israel.
Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
And Jehovah said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
And the glory of Jehovah came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east.
And Jehovah said unto me, This gate shall be shut; it shall not be opened, neither shall any man enter in by it; for Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it; therefore it shall be shut.
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and his {Or, skirts}train filled the temple.
These things said Isaiah, because he saw his glory; and he spake of him.
But without any dispute the less is blessed of the better.
Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High:For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways;
To give knowledge of salvation unto his peopleIn the remission of their sins,
Because of the {Or, heart of mercy}tender mercy of our God, {Or, Wherein}Whereby the dayspring from on high {Many ancient authorities read hath visited us.}shall visit us,
But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, {Psalms 116:10.}I believed, and therefore did I speak; we also believe, and therefore also we speak;
knowing that he that raised up {Some ancient authorities omit the Lord.}the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also with Jesus, and shall present us with you.
But thou art he that took me out of the womb;Thou didst make me trust when I was upon my mother's breasts.
I was cast upon thee from the womb;Thou art my God since my mother bare me.
