Versliste
Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,
For that the leaders took the lead in Israel,For that the people offered themselves willingly,Bless ye Jehovah.
Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes;I, even I, will sing unto Jehovah;I will sing praise to Jehovah, the God of Israel.
Jehovah, when thou wentest forth out of Seir,When thou marchedst out of the field of Edom,The earth trembled, the heavens also dropped,Yea, the clouds dropped water.
The mountains quaked at the presence of Jehovah,Even yon Sinai at the presence of Jehovah, the God of Israel.
And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto Jehovah, and spake, saying,I will sing unto Jehovah, for he {Or, is highly exalted}hath triumphed gloriously:The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
Thou in thy lovingkindness hast led the people that thou hast redeemed:Thou hast guided them in thy strength to thy holy habitation.
Thou wilt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance,The place, O Jehovah, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in,The sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.
So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
Through him {Some ancient authorities omit then.}then let us offer up a sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of lips which make confession to his name.
All the days of his vow of separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in which he separateth himself unto Jehovah, he shall be holy; he shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow long.
And the Nazirite shall shave the head of his separation at the door of the tent of meeting, and shall take the hair of the head of his separation, and put it on the fire which is under the sacrifice of peace-offerings.
I will make mine arrows drunk with blood,And my sword shall devour flesh;With the blood of the slain and the captives, {Or, From the beginning of revenges upon the enemy}From {Or, the hairy head of the enemy}the head of the leaders of the enemy.
I will make mine arrows drunk with blood,And my sword shall devour flesh;With the blood of the slain and the captives, {Or, From the beginning of revenges upon the enemy}From {Or, the hairy head of the enemy}the head of the leaders of the enemy.
But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made you {Or, overseers}bishops, to feed the church of {Some ancient authorities, including the two oldest manuscripts read God.}the Lord which he {Greek: acquired.}purchased with his own blood.
But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
and madest them to be unto our God a kingdom and priests; and they reign upon the earth.
O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people,When thou didst march through the wilderness; [Selah
The earth trembled,The heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God:Yon Sinai trembled at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
God {Or, cometh ( and similarly to the end of verse 15)}came from Teman,And the Holy One from mount Paran. [Selah.His glory covered the heavens,And the earth was full of his praise.
And his brightness was as the light;He had {Hebrew: horns.}rays coming forth {Or, at his side}from his hand;And there was the hiding of his power.
Before him went the pestilence,And {Or, burning coals}fiery bolts went forth at his feet.
He stood, and {Or, shook}measured the earth;He beheld, and drove asunder the nations;And the eternal mountains were scattered;The everlasting hills did bow; {Or, His ways are everlasting}His goings were as of old.
I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction;The curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.
Was Jehovah displeased with the rivers?Was thine anger against the rivers,Or thy wrath against the sea,That thou didst ride upon thy horses,Upon thy chariots of salvation?
Thy bow was made quite bare; {Or, Sworn were the chastisements (Hebrew: rods) of thy word}The oaths to the tribes were a sure word. [Selah.Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
The mountains saw thee, and {Or, were in pain}were afraid;The tempest of waters passed by;The deep uttered its voice,And lifted up its hands on high.
The sun and moon stood still in their habitation,At the light of thine arrows as they went,At the shining of thy glittering spear.
Thou didst march through the land in indignation;Thou didst thresh the nations in anger.
Thou {Or, art come}wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, {Or, For salvation (or, victory) with thine anointed}For the salvation of thine anointed; {Or, Thou didst smite off the head from the house &c.}Thou {Or, hast wounded}woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked man,Laying bare the foundation even unto the neck. [Selah.
Thou {Or, hast pierced}didst pierce with his own staves the head of his {Or, hordes Or, villages}warriors:They came as a whirlwind to scatter me;Their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
Thou {Or, hast trodden}didst tread the sea with thy horses,The {Or, surge}heap of mighty waters.
And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:
how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians dealt ill with us, and our fathers:
and when we cried unto Jehovah, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border.
Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy land: we will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go along the king's highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy border.
And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against thee.
And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of thy water, I and my cattle, then will I give the price thereof: let me only, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet.
And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.
Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as Jehovah spake unto me; and we compassed mount Seir many days.
And Jehovah spake unto me, saying,
Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. Take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore;
contend not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.
Ye shall purchase food of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.
For Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee in all the work of thy hand; he hath known thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years Jehovah thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
So we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion-geber.And we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
For ye are not come unto {Or, a palpable and kindled fire}a mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,
and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard entreated that no word more should be spoken unto them;
for they could not endure that which was enjoined, {Exodus 19:12 f.}If even a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned;
and so fearful was the appearance, that Moses said, {Deuteronomy 9:19.}I exceedingly fear and quake:
for our God is a consuming fire.
