Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of {Or, The hundred}Hammeah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananel.
And after him repaired the priests, the men of the {Or, Circuit}Plain.
But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, stayed them from their purpose; and commanded that they who could swim should cast themselves overboard, and get first to the land;
but Paul choose Silas, and went forth, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord.
When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment-seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
They took Jesus therefore: and he went out, bearing the cross for himself, unto the place called The place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha:
This title therefore read many of the Jews, {Or, for the place of the city where Jesus was crucified was nigh at hand}for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city; and it was written in Hebrew, and in Latin, and in Greek.
