And he said unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet; {Or, and he that hath no sword, let him sell his cloak, and buy one.}and he that hath none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword.
For I say unto you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, {Isaiah 53:12.}And he was reckoned with transgressors: for that which concerneth me hath {Greek: end.}fulfilment.
And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
And behold, one of them that were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and smote the {Greek: bondservant.}servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
Or thinkest thou that I cannot beseech my Father, and he shall even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?
How then should the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
But a certain one of them that stood by drew his sword, and smote the {Greek: bondservant.}servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear.
And when they that were about him saw what would follow, they said, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
And a certain one of them smote the {Greek: bondservant.}servant of the high priest, and struck off his right ear.
But Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye them thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
And Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and elders, that were come against him, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves?
Simon Peter therefore having a sword drew it, and struck the high priest's {Greek: bondservant}servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the {Greek: bondservant}servant's name was Malchus.
Jesus therefore said unto Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath: the cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, {Or, holding a straight course in the word of truth Or, rightly dividing the word of truth}handling aright the word of truth.
For our wrestling is not against {Greek: blood and flesh.}flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Wherefore take up the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
and having shod your feet with the preparation of the {Greek: good tidings. See Matthew 4:23 margin.}gospel of peace;
withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,
For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.
And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
looking unto Jesus the {Or, captain}author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
And I will strengthen them in Jehovah; and they shall walk up and down in his name, saith Jehovah.
Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
And from that time he sought opportunity to {See chapter 10:4.}deliver him unto them.
Then Judas, who {See marginal note on chapter 10:4.}betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
saying, I have sinned in that I {See marginal note on chapter 10:4.}betrayed {Many ancient authorities read righteous.}innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see thou to it.
And he cast down the pieces of silver into the sanctuary, and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.
And the chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the {Greek: corbanas, that is, sacred treasury. Compare Mark 7:11.}treasury, since it is the price of blood.
And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.
Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, {Zechariah 11:12, 13.}And {Or, I took}they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was priced, {Or, whom they priced on the part of the sons of Israel}whom certain of the children of Israel did price;
and {Some ancient authorities read I gave.}they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
They part my garments among them,And upon my vesture do they cast lots.
The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the {Or, tunic}coat: now the {Or, tunic}coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
They said therefore one to another, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, {Psalm 22:18.}They parted my garments among them,And upon my vesture did they cast lots.

And he said unto them, These are my words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me.
Then opened he their mind, that they might understand the scriptures;
and he said unto them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day;
and that repentance {Some ancient authorities read unto.}and remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the {Or, nations. Beginning from Jerusalem, ye are witnesses}nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
Ye are witnesses of these things.
