Versliste
(for thou shalt worship no other god: for Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God);
Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of Jehovah your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image in the form of anything which Jehovah thy God hath forbidden thee.
He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, that standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is made full.
Thou hast {Or, given me courage}ravished my heart, my sister, my bride;Thou hast {Or, given me courage}ravished my heart with {Or, one look from thine eyes}one of thine eyes,With one chain of thy neck.
How fair is thy love, my sister, my bride!How much better is thy love than wine!And the fragrance of thine oils than all manner of spices!
Thy lips, O my bride, {Or, drop honey}drop as the honeycomb:Honey and milk are under thy tongue;And the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.
A garden {Hebrew: barred.}shut up is my sister, my bride;A spring shut up, a fountain sealed.
Wives, be in subjection unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, being himself the saviour of the body.
But as the church is subject to Christ, {Or, so are the wives also}so let the wives also be to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it;
that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the {Greek: laver.}washing of water with the word,
that he might present the church to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Even so ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his own wife loveth himself:
for no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as Christ also the church;
because we are members of his body.
{Genesis 2:24.}For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh.
This mystery is great: but I speak in regard of Christ and of the church.
I am black, but comely,Oh ye daughters of Jerusalem,As the tents of Kedar,As the curtains of Solomon.
And from thence they journeyed to {That is, A well.}Beer: that is the well whereof Jehovah said unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
Then sang Israel this song:Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
And Hannah prayed, and said:My heart exulteth in Jehovah;My horn is exalted in Jehovah;My mouth is enlarged over mine enemies;Because I rejoice in thy salvation.
There is none holy as Jehovah;For there is none besides thee,Neither is there any rock like our God.
Talk no more so exceeding proudly;Let not arrogancy come out of your mouth;For Jehovah is a God of knowledge, {According to another reading, Though actions be not weighed.}And by him actions are weighed.
The bows of the mighty men are broken;And they that stumbled are girded with strength.
They that were full have hired out themselves for bread;And they that were hungry {Or, have rest}have ceased to hunger:Yea, the barren hath borne seven;And she that hath many children languisheth.
Jehovah killeth, and maketh alive:He bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up.
Jehovah maketh poor, and maketh rich:He bringeth low, he also lifteth up.
He raiseth up the poor out of the dust,He lifteth up the needy from the dunghill,To make them sit with princes,And inherit the throne of glory:For the pillars of the earth are Jehovah's,And he hath set the world upon them.
He will keep the feet of his {Or, godly ones Another reading is, holy one.}holy ones;But the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness;For by strength shall no man prevail.
They that strive with Jehovah shall be broken to pieces;Against them will he thunder in heaven:Jehovah will judge the ends of the earth;And he will give strength unto his king,And exalt the horn of his anointed.
Let the word of {Some ancient authorities read the Lord: others, God.}Christ dwell in you {Or, richly in all wisdom; teaching &c.}richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing {Or, yourselves}one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God.
