Versliste
And it came to pass, from the day that the ark abode in Kiriath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel {Or, was drawn together}lamented after Jehovah.
Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God,And kept not his testimonies;
But turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers:They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
For they provoked him to anger with their high places,And moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
When God heard this, he was wroth,And greatly abhorred Israel;
So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh,The tent which he placed among men;
And delivered his strength into captivity,And his glory into the adversary's hand.
He gave his people over also unto the sword,And was wroth with his inheritance.
Fire devoured their young men;And their virgins had no marriage-song.
Their priests fell by the sword;And their widows made no lamentation.
Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God,And kept not his testimonies;
For they provoked him to anger with their high places,And moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
And the sin of the young men was very great before Jehovah; for the men despised the offering of Jehovah.
And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
And he said, Nay; but as prince of the host of Jehovah am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
And the prince of Jehovah's host said unto Joshua, Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
Now the sons of Eli were base men; they knew not Jehovah.
And what concord hath Christ with {Greek: Beliar.}Belial? or what portion hath a believer with an unbeliever?
if we are faithless, he abideth faithful; for he cannot deny himself.
And delivered his strength into captivity,And his glory into the adversary's hand.
He gave his people over also unto the sword,And was wroth with his inheritance.
