And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begat Isaac:
and Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the {Hebrew: Aramean.}Syrian of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the {Hebrew: Aramean.}Syrian, to be his wife.
And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren: and Jehovah was entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, {Or, wherefore am I thus?}wherefore do I live? And she went to inquire of Jehovah.
And Jehovah said unto her,Two nations are in thy womb,And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels:And the one people shall be stronger than the other people;And the elder shall serve the younger.
And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.
And the first came forth {Or, ruddy}red, all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.
And after that came forth his brother, and his hand had hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called {That is, One that takes by the heel or supplants.}Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.
And the boys grew: and Esau was a skilful hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a {Or, harmless Hebrew: perfect.}quiet man, dwelling in tents.
Now Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: and Rebekah loved Jacob.
And Jacob boiled pottage: and Esau came in from the field, and he was faint:
and Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with {Hebrew: the red pottage, this red pottage.}that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called {That is, Red.}Edom.
And Jacob said, Sell me {Hebrew: to-day.}first thy birthright.
And Esau said, Behold, I am about to die: and what profit shall the birthright do to me?
And Jacob said, Swear to me {Hebrew: to-day.}first; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
And Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: so Esau despised his birthright.
Ye husbands, in like manner, dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor {Greek: unto the female vessel, as weaker.}unto the woman, as unto the weaker vessel, as being also joint-heirs of the grace of life; to the end that your prayers be not hindered.
And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren: and Jehovah was entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.
And David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So Jehovah was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them; for they cried to God in the battle, and he was entreated of them, because they put their trust in him.
And he prayed unto him; and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Jehovah he was God.
His prayer also, and how God was entreated of him, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up the Asherim and the graven images, before he humbled himself: behold, they are written in the history of {Or, the seers}Hozai.
For I was ashamed to ask of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way, because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them that seek him, for good; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.
So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was entreated of us.
And Jehovah will smite Egypt, smiting and healing; and they shall return unto Jehovah, and he will be entreated of them, and will heal them.
in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years whereof the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah the prophet, for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jerusalem, even seventy years.
And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us:
If I {Or, had regarded}regard iniquity in my heart,The Lord {Or, would}will not hear:
Behold, I and the children whom Jehovah hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Jehovah of hosts, who dwelleth in mount Zion.
For in much wisdom is much grief; and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
it was said unto her, {Genesis 25:23}The elder shall serve the younger.
Even as it is written, {Malachi 1:2 f}Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.
I have loved you, saith Jehovah. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? {Or, Is not Esau…yet I have loved &c.}Was not Esau Jacob's brother, saith Jehovah: yet I loved Jacob;
but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.
And Jehovah said unto her,Two nations are in thy womb,And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels:And the one people shall be stronger than the other people;And the elder shall serve the younger.
but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.

And he gave them their request,But sent leanness into their soul.
And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death.
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me venison;
and make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.
And after that came forth his brother, and his hand had hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called {That is, One that takes by the heel or supplants.}Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.
yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him at Beth-el, and there he spake with us,
The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness!
And if it seem evil unto you to serve Jehovah, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.
But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come.
And Abraham begat Isaac. The sons of Isaac: Esau, and Israel.
{Or, The genealogy of Jesus Christ}The book of the {Or, birth: as in verse 18.}generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judah and his brethren;
And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood?
Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
And God said unto Moses, {Or, I AM, BECAUSE I AM Or, I AM WHO AM Or, I WILL BE THAT I WILL BE}I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, {Hebrew: Ehueh. From the same root as Jehovah.}I AM hath sent me unto you.
Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way as ye came forth out of Egypt;
After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
For their substance was too great for them to dwell together; and the land of their sojournings could not bear them because of their cattle.
By faith he became a sojourner in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, {Or, having taken up his abode in tents}dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
And he said unto him, Fear not; for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.
And he did obeisance, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name:
accounting the reproach of {Or, the Christ Compare 1 Corinthians 10:4.}Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he looked unto the recompense of reward.
ye made also a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But ye looked not unto {Or, the maker thereof}him that had done this, neither had ye respect unto him that purposed it long ago.
And in that day did the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:
and behold, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we shall die.
If after the manner of men I fought with beasts at Ephesus, {Or, what doth it profit me, if the dead are not raised? Let us eat &c.}what doth it profit me? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we die.
Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man shall see the Lord:
for the children being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth,
teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you {Greek: all the days.}always, even unto {Or, the consummation of the age.}the end of the world.
Then Manoah entreated Jehovah, and said, Oh, Lord, I pray thee, let the man of God whom thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.
