Versliste
Hereby we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do his commandments.
and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been {Greek: poured out.}shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given unto us.
having heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have toward all the saints,
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, {Many ancient authorities read how can he love God whom he hath not seen?}cannot love God whom he hath not seen.
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
And now I beseech thee, {Or, Cyria}lady, not as though I wrote to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
For I spake not from myself; but the Father that sent me, he hath given me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; {Or, even as I loved you, that ye also may love one another.}even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.
No one {Some ancient authorities read took it away}taketh it away from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have {Or, right}power to lay it down, and I have {Or, right}power to take it again. This commandment received I from my Father.
but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.
The elder unto Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.
