For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of Jehovah, {See 2 Samuel 22:1-51.}who spake unto Jehovah the words of this song in the day that Jehovah delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: and he said,
I love thee, O Jehovah, my strength.
 Jehovah is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
My God, my rock, in whom I will take refuge;
My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.
 I will call upon Jehovah, who is worthy to be praised:
So shall I be saved from mine enemies.
 The cords of death compassed me,
And the floods of {Hebrew: Belial.}ungodliness made me afraid.
 The cords of Sheol were round about me;
The snares of death came upon me.
 In my distress I called upon Jehovah,
And cried unto my God:
He heard my voice out of his temple,
And my cry before him came into his ears.
 Then the earth shook and trembled;
The foundations also of the mountains quaked
And were shaken, because he was wroth.
 There went up a smoke {Or, in his wrath}out of his nostrils,
And fire out of his mouth devoured:
Coals were kindled by it.
 He bowed the heavens also, and came down;
And thick darkness was under his feet.
 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly;
Yea, he soared upon the wings of the wind.
 He made darkness his hiding-place, his pavilion round about him,
Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
 At the brightness before him his thick clouds passed,
Hailstones and coals of fire.
 Jehovah also thundered in the heavens,
And the Most High uttered his voice,
Hailstones and coals of fire.
 And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them;
 {Or, And he shot out lightnings}Yea, lightnings manifold, and discomfited them.
 Then the channels of waters appeared,
And the foundations of the world were laid bare,
At thy rebuke, O Jehovah,
At the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
 He sent from on high, he took me;
He drew me out of {Or, great}many waters.
 He delivered me from my strong enemy,
And from them that hated me; for they were too mighty for me.
 They came upon me in the day of my calamity;
But Jehovah was my stay.
 He brought me forth also into a large place;
He delivered me, because he delighted in me.
 Jehovah hath rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
 For I have kept the ways of Jehovah,
And have not wickedly departed from my God.
 For all his ordinances were before me,
And I put not away his statutes from me.
 I was also perfect with him,
And I kept myself from mine iniquity.
 Therefore hath Jehovah recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.
 With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful;
With the perfect man thou wilt show thyself perfect;
 With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure;
And with the perverse thou wilt show thyself froward.
 For thou wilt save the afflicted people;
But the haughty eyes thou wilt bring down.
 For thou wilt light my lamp:
Jehovah my God will lighten my darkness.
 For by thee I run  {Or, through}upon a troop;
And by my God do I leap over a wall.
 As for God, his way is perfect:
The word of Jehovah is tried;
He is a shield unto all them that take refuge in him.
 For who is God, save Jehovah?
And who is a rock, besides our God,
 The God that girdeth me with strength,
And maketh my way perfect?
 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet:
And setteth me upon my high places.
 He teacheth my hands to war;
So that mine arms do bend a bow of brass.
 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation;
And thy right hand hath holden me up,
And thy {Or, condescension}gentleness hath made me great.
 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me,
And my {Hebrew: ankles.}feet have not slipped.
 I will pursue mine enemies, and overtake them;
Neither will I turn again till they are consumed.
 I will smite them through, so that they shall not be able to rise:
They shall fall under my feet.
 For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle:
Thou hast {Hebrew: caused to bow.}subdued under me those that rose up against me.
 Thou hast also made mine enemies turn their backs unto me,
That I might cut off them that hate me.
 They cried, but there was none to save;
Even unto Jehovah, but he answered them not.
 Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind;
I did {Hebrew: empty.}cast them out as the mire of the streets.
 Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people;
Thou {Or, wilt make}hast made me the head of the nations:
A people whom I have not known shall serve me.
 As soon as they hear of me they shall obey me;
The foreigners shall {Or, yield feigned obedience Hebrew: lie.}submit themselves unto me.
 The foreigners shall fade away,
And shall come trembling out of their close places.
 Jehovah liveth; and blessed be my rock;
And exalted be the God of my salvation,
 Even the God that executeth vengeance for me,
And subdueth peoples under me.
 He rescueth me from mine enemies;
Yea, thou liftest me up above them that rise up against me;
Thou deliverest me from the violent man.
 Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Jehovah, among the nations,
And will sing praises unto thy name.
 Great {Hebrew: salvations.}deliverance giveth he to his king,
And showeth lovingkindness to his anointed,
To David and to his seed, for evermore.
Querverweise zu Psalm 18,37 Ps 18,37
Arise, O Jehovah; Save me, O my God:For thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone;Thou hast broken the teeth of the wicked.
When mine enemies turn back,They stumble and perish at thy presence.
Take hold of shield and buckler,And stand up for my help.
Let them be as chaff before the wind,And the angel of Jehovah driving them on.
They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about:In the name of Jehovah I will cut them off.
They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns:In the name of Jehovah I will cut them off.
I see him, but not now;I behold him, but not nigh:There shall come forth a star out of Jacob,And a sceptre shall rise out of Israel,And shall smite through the corners of Moab,And break down all the sons {Or, of Sheth}of tumult.
And Edom shall be a possession,Seir also shall be a possession, who were his enemies;While Israel doeth valiantly.
And out of Jacob shall one have dominion,And shall destroy the remnant from the city.
Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath {Hebrew: made him sick.}put him to grief: {Or, when his soul shall make an offering}when thou shalt make his soul {Hebrew: a trespass-offering.}an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.
{Or, He shall see and be satisfied with the travil &c.}He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: {Or, by his knowledge}by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant {Or, make many righteous}justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities.
Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bare the sin of many, and {Or, maketh}made intercession for the transgressors.
Who is this that cometh from Edom, with {Or, crimsoned}dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winevat?
I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peoples there was no man with me: yea, I {Or, will tread…and trample}trod them in mine anger, and trampled them in my wrath; and their {Or, strength}lifeblood {Or, shall be}is sprinkled upon my garments, and I {Or, will stain}have stained all my raiment.
For the day of vengeance {Or, is}was in my heart, and {Or, my year of redemption}the year of my redeemed is come.
And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my wrath, it upheld me.
And {Or, I will tread…and make…and I will pour out}I trod down the peoples in mine anger, and {Or, according to another reading, brake them in pieces}made them drunk in my wrath, and I {Or, brought down their strength to the earth}poured out their lifeblood on the earth.
And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon had a bow; and there was given unto him a crown: and he came forth conquering, and to conquer.
And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat upon the horse, and against his army.
And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought the signs in his sight, wherewith he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast and them that {See marginal note on chapter 3:9}worshipped his image: they two were cast alive into the lake of fire that burneth with brimstone:
