For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of Jehovah. {Or, Transgression saith to the wicked}The transgression of the wicked {Or, uttereth its oracle}saith within my heart,There is no fear of God before his eyes.
For {Or, it (or, he) flattereth him in his eyes}he flattereth himself in his own eyes, {Or, Until his iniquity be found and be hated Hebrew: Concerning the finding out of his iniquity and hating it.}That his iniquity will not be found out and be hated.
The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit:He hath ceased to be wise and to do good.
He deviseth iniquity upon his bed;He setteth himself in a way that is not good;He abhorreth not evil.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?
And you did he make alive, when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins,
wherein ye once walked according to the {Greek: age.}course of this world, according to the prince of the {Greek: power.}powers of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience;
among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the {Greek: thoughts.}mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:—
let no man beguile you in any wise: for it will not be, except the falling away come first, and the man of {Many ancient authorities read lawlessness.}sin be revealed, the son of perdition,
he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or {Greek: an object of worship. Acts 17:23.}that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the {Or, sanctuary}temple of God, setting himself forth as God.
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins,
