Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
And let the priests also, that come near to Jehovah, sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah break forth upon them.
And Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat:
when they go into the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire unto Jehovah.
So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.
(For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands {Or, up to the elbow Greek: with the fist.}diligently, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders;
because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draught? This he said, making all meats clean.
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart;Who hath not lifted up his soul unto falsehood,And hath not sworn deceitfully.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without {Or, doubtfulness Or, partiality}variance, without hypocrisy.
these take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges for them, that they may shave their heads: and all shall know that there is no truth in the things whereof they have been informed concerning thee; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, keeping the law.
Then Paul {Or, took the men the next day, and purifying himself &c.}took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them went into the temple, declaring the fulfilment of the days of purification, until the offering was offered for every one of them.
Seeing ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth unto unfeigned love of the brethren, love one another {Many ancient authorities read from a clean heart. Compare 1 Timothy 1:5.}from the heart fervently:
And every one that hath this hope set on him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.
