Versliste
And behold, the veil of the {Or, sanctuary}temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake; and the rocks were rent;
and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints that had fallen asleep were raised;
and coming forth out of the tombs after his resurrection they entered into the holy city and appeared unto many.
Now the centurion, and they that were with him watching Jesus, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, Truly this was {Or, a son of God.}the Son of God.
And many women were there beholding from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of {Or, Jacob}James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
the Holy Spirit this signifying, that the way into the holy place hath not yet been made manifest, while the first tabernacle is yet standing;
whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, {Haggai 2:6.}Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven.
And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.
Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have {Or, thankfulness Compare 1 Corinthians 10:30.}grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with {Or, godly fear Compare chapter 5:7.}reverence and awe:
but hath now been manifested by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and {Greek: incorruption. See Romans 2:7}immortality to light through the {Greek: good tidings; and so elsewhere. See marginal note on Matthew 4:23.}gospel,
But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep.
and that he appeared to Cephas; then to the twelve;
then he appeared to above five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain until now, but some are fallen asleep;
then he appeared to {Or, Jacob}James; then to all the apostles;
and last of all, as to the child untimely born, he appeared to me also.
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.
Martha therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary still sat in the house.
Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
there came unto him a woman having {Or, a flask}an alabaster cruse of exceeding precious ointment, and she poured it upon his head, as he {Or, recline at table}sat at meat.
For in that she {Greek: cast.}poured this ointment upon my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.
And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the Lord's feet, and heard his word.
