Then Herod privily called the {Greek: Magi. Compare Esther 1:13; Daniel 2:12; Acts 13:6, 8.}Wise-men, and learned of them exactly {Or, the time of the star that appeared}what time the star appeared.
And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who beforetime in the city used sorcery, and amazed the {Greek: nation.}people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
And they gave heed to him, because that of long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.
But Elymas the {Greek: Magus: as in Matthew 2:1, 7, 16.}sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn aside the proconsul from the faith.
But certain also of the strolling Jews, exorcists, took upon them to name over them that had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
