For hath any said unto God,I have borne chastisement, {Or, though I offend not}I will not offend any more:
That which I see not teach thou me:If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?
Shall his recompense be as thou wilt, that thou refusest it?For thou must choose, and not I:Therefore speak what thou knowest.
Men of understanding will say unto me,Yea, every wise man that heareth me:
Job speaketh without knowledge,And his words are without wisdom.
Would that Job were tried unto the end,Because of his answering like wicked men.
For he addeth rebellion unto his sin;He clappeth his hands among us,And multiplieth his words against God.
In all this Job sinned not, nor {Or, attributed folly to God}charged God foolishly.
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the {Or, impious}foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
But he that doubteth is condemned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith; and whatsoever is not of faith is sin {Many authorities, some ancient, insert here chapter 16:25-27.}.
Search me, O God, and know my heart:Try me, and know my thoughts;
And see if there be any {Or, way of pain}wicked way in me,And lead me in the way everlasting.
For I know nothing against myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that {Or, examineth}judgeth me is the Lord.
And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together; and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.
