Versliste
And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them tongues {Or, parting among them Or, distributing themselves}parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them.
And I will {Greek: make request of.}pray the Father, and he shall give you another {Or, Advocate Or, Helper Greek: Paraclete.}Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened {Some ancient authorities omit unto him.}unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;
And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him:
and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form, as a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son: in thee I am well pleased.
And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him.
{Isaiah 42:1 ff.}Behold, my {See marginal note on Acts 3:13.}servant whom I have chosen;My beloved in whom my soul is well pleased:I will put my Spirit upon him,And he shall declare judgment to the {See marginal note on chapter 4:15.}Gentiles.
He shall not strive, nor cry aloud;Neither shall any one hear his voice in the streets.
A bruised reed shall he not break,And smoking flax shall he not quench,Till he send forth judgment unto victory.
But when the {Or, Advocate Or, Helper Greek: Paraclete.}Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which {Or, goeth forth from}proceedeth from the Father, he shall bear witness of me:
{Or, and bear ye also witness}and ye also bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: {Some ancient authorities read for the Holy Spirit was not yet given.}for the Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.
And they of the circumcision that believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit.
